Tangerine Tango PANTONE 17-1463

Tangerine Tango PANTONE 17-1463

Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company, and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries has chosen the Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine tango the color of the year for 2012.

Tangerine tango is described as a vivacious and enticing hue that provides the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. It is sophisticated but at the same time dramatic as Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute® said “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

According to my research, orange has long been associated with being cheap and is considered as the most dislike color by American. However, for the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumer alike. Personally, I find Tangerine Tango very appealing because this spirited reddish orange has a lot of depth to it. It is fun, lively, attractive and exotic in a very friendly, non-threatening way even though it has a lot of red in it.

To come up with this color, Pantone has gone through a very thoughtful and intense process of looking for color influences throughout the world. This includes the entertainment industry, films that are in production, traveling art collections, new artist, popular travel destinations, technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even sport events. Pantone understands that this is a very serious and important decision because for more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decision in multiple industries, including fashion, home, industrial design, product packaging and graphic design.

PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango can also be cross-referenced to all other PANTONE Libraries including PANTONE PLUS and PANTONE Goe™ for graphic design. If you want to stay on trend, here is the Pantone color system for Tangerine Tango:

PLUS series CMYK: 0, 82, 80, 0

PLUS series RGB: 225, 82, 61

PLUS series: 7625C (closest match)

p/s: I just recently purchased 3 products in Tangerine Tango before reading about this so I believe Pantone did take this annually decision very seriously! I was very much unconsciously drawn into this “seductive” color! 🙂
